The GPI is a scientific society for digital media, media didactics and educational technology.
Media competitions for the Comenius Medals, international symposia and media projects are the main areas of activity of the GPI and its Institute for Education and Media.
Establishment
The Society for Pedagogy and Information (GPI) was founded in 1964 as the “Working Group Programmed Instruction e.V.” with the aim of making the latest developments in the field of systematic, scientifically grounded teaching and learning methods known to the general public and promoting their introduction into schools and education.
By decision in the general meetings, the name of the society was changed in 1966 to “Society for Programmed Instruction and Media Didactics e.V.,” in 1980 to “Society for Pedagogy and Information e.V.,” and finally in 2014 to “Society for Pedagogy, Information, and Media e.V. ‘Johann Amos Comenius,’ GPI e.V
Mission
Today, the GPI sees itself as a professional association for pedagogy and educational research. Its mission is to promote the development and testing of teaching and learning methods, including didactic media. Accordingly, both basic research and applied research in the field of teaching and learning methods and didactic media are actively supported. Additionally, the GPI maintains documentation on relevant pedagogical and information science literature, especially on teaching and learning systems and didactic media.
The scope of work ranges from the challenges of contemporary educational content in the face of rapidly changing demands from politics, science, and technology to the development of media-supported teaching aids, questions related to the planning and implementation of didactic processes, the development and evaluation of educational media, and media pedagogical issues related to digital media and educational networks.
Impact
The GPI endeavors to present its work results and conceptual ideas to institutions in educational policy and administration. It provides expert opinions on media didactic and educational technology issues, positioning itself as a knowledgeable body of scientists and practitioners that offers its experiences and insights to educational policy.
Since 1995, the GPI, as a scientific professional association for educational media, digital media, educational technology, and media didactics, has awarded Comenius EduMedia accolades for exemplary didactic educational media. The focus is on supporting pedagogically, conceptually, and artistically outstanding digital educational media products and Euro-cultural educational media.
