1. He is considered the father of modern education and the founder of contemporary pedagogy and didactics.

2. The author of the book „The Great Didactic“ (1630), which is considered his most important pedagogical work. In it, he presented his perspective on education as lifelong learning and systematized the course of schooling for children and youth.

3. His work is still reflected in today’s school system: the method of presenting school material, the structure of a lesson, and the entire school year with annual breaks. His contributions include the definition of a class as a complete work-learning unit, teacher education, and educational staff.

4. He was of the Protestant faith, and much of his life was spent in exile, greatly influencing the content of his works.

5. He strongly advocated for education that is accessible to all, regardless of gender, social background, or language. He strived for the establishment of schools in every locality and the publication of textbooks in the native language.

6. He saw education as the greatest opportunity for shaping and growing individuals, advocating for gradual and lifelong learning, as well as learning with understanding (at his time, rote memorization was prevalent).

7. He advocated the idea that humans inherently possess goodness, contrary to the prevailing belief of his time that humans are inclined toward evil, leading to prohibitions, punishments, and corporal punishment of children. He believed that teaching should take place in a pleasant environment where children learn out of a desire for knowledge, not out of fear of punishment for ignorance.

8. His didactic principles are based on pansophy – the encyclopedic presentation of all human knowledge. Pansophy is also the foundation of the textbooks he envisioned as the primary material for teaching.

9. The oldest and largest university in Slovakia, founded in 1919, is named after him – Comenius University in Bratislava; Univerzita Komenského v Bratislave.

10. He introduced the use of textbooks adapted to different age groups in schools. In 1654, he published „Orbis Pictus,“ considered the first picture book intended for children.
